Let's be very honest here. There is one primary reason why these excerpts are played generally on tuba rather than euphonium. The tubist feels as if he will lose his manhood if he "gives in" and plays it on euphonium. These kind of people are simply stupid. The fact of the matter is, IT SOUNDS BETTER IF YOU PLAY IT ON EUPHONIUM!!!! It's written too high!!! All my tuba player friends claim... "I can play it on tuba... I'm not a wimp!". Who cares? The main objective is to play the part as musically as possible and have it sound as relaxed and natural as possible. Bydlo, for example, doesn't sound that way when played on tuba. Sure, some players can get the notes out without much trouble, but it just doesn't sound good... because it's in an uncomfortable register of the instrument. Enough said.
