Dear collegue, I play in some ocassions with a Melton 25 and a old Miraphone 186, and in the last year I played with a Yamaha 641. In my opinion and experience (I have respect for other opinions, of course), the Melton 25 have the best intonation of this three tubas, in addition to your big dark sound and the easily in the pedal register. The Miraphone have full dark sound and is the more smooth of this tubas; but I have problems to maintain the same color in all the register and have a little trouble with the intonation with Ab and Eb. The Yamaha 641 is a very good tuba for large and medium ensambles, have a little trouble with the G, the quality of the sound and best intonation may to compares with Melton 25. Of this three tubas I will choosing the Melton 25, principaly for your price; but you would remember that a good tuba is that one played but a good tubist. Excuse me for my poor English, I hope this help.
