Bill Bell was comfortable with any tuba in any key, but for his fun stuff (solos, and pop recordings) his first choice was a King 4-valve Eb sousaphone. A similar one was on ebay recently.
It is also interesting to note that Marty Erickson and my father (Howard Hovey) both published articles with the title "In Defense of Eb Tubas".
