The tuba player for the Dixie Power Trio in Virginia (check out one of their CD's) has a big Boehm & Meinl, which he has also outfitted with a carbon-fiber bell. I got to try the horn, and it responds well, sounding as good as any horn made when miked. Also, that 5/4 size horn, with that bell, weighed less than a fiberglass sousaphone. I can imagine that being important when doing entire high-energy shows on your feet.
