Yes, I do agree that the Mel Culbertson tubas are good. I bought a VMI 5098 (piston version of the 4098) 2 months ago and I think itīs the best tuba for the $ on the market. I compared it with a 4098 and the Gronitz PCK and my MW 2155 (which is a fantastic 4/4 sized tuba). It is a big tuba but I bought it for almost exclusive use in the orchestra. Itīs not the best 6/4 sized piston valved tuba that Iīve played but considering it cost me less than half of what a Nirschl costs, I think itīs a good deal.
