This was part of the First Tuba Symposium ever. Harvey Phillips sponsored this and had over 100 composers present - most wrote a work for the tuba after. Many called this event the beginning of the modern era of the tuba. I was a college freshman and skipped a week of school to go with no regrets. It was there I first met Mr Jacobs but there were several other students there such as Gene Pokorny. It would be interesting to find out what influence the conference had on students who were there.
