Ditto Ken's comments. I lapped my valves with pumice (not Lava soap), under the watchful eye of a repair tech in San Antonio who let me work in his shop from time to time. It took a couple of tries, with some very careful buffing of the pistons. Alisyn oil seems to work best on this horn for me, too. Neither Hetmans nor BiNaK (which I use on the York), nor any of the petroleum-based oils, work as well.

Eventually, the valves got much better. After a recent chem-clean at Dillon Music, I tried the BiNaK again, and again found that it was as sluggish on the Yamaha as it was fast on the York. Yamaha ought to supply Alisyn with the horn. The York's valves are as tight as the Yamaha's, so I don't think tightness is the issue.
