Which makes me wonder if we're overpaying for our mouthpieces. If mass has little to do with anything, why not just stamp 'em out of sheet brass and braze a shank on? Or thread the cup and sell the shank separately... No cutters to maintain and the stamping die would be the same on the 10,000th as it was on the first.
Heck, you could do away with plating entirely if you stamped 'em outa stainless steel...
