The most famous spectrum analysis experiments involve when the experimenter had various people play a trumpet before and after it was encased in Lucite, with the instrument hidden from the various player's views...only the mouthpiece was accessable and in view. Obviously, the players could only attack and slur back and forth between open tones...quite enough of a demonstration, in the view of most.

The spectographic trails for each individual player were virtually identical before and after the Lucite encasement.
