I agree with Tony. You may not want to play on a big-as-a-commode-bowl mouthpiece, but free blowing is the key. Equipment varies from player to player and from horn to horn. Your teacher can help you develop good breath control. That is essential to good tuba playing. MP's and horns may come and go. Some are better than others, but none are a good substitute for well developed skills. I'm confident that, with a little effort, you'll be pleasantly surprised regardless of your equipment.
