I experience a very mild odor at first. It won't last more than a day or two, if that, as long as you rinse it thoroughly. If you do, it is almost unnoticeable. I thought the same thing when I first heard it. Not as bad as you might think. Wait until you see all the crap that comes out of your axe. You might not mind after you see that.
