Hi, Larry. I play an all-Strauss, (Johann, not Richard!) night every year with an orchestra, so I'm familiar with these parts. I believe they were orchestrated with the smaller Viennese "F" in mind and they should be played where written. Some of those parts are really funny! Since it's a small orchestra, I usually double a bass part rather than play the tuba part.
