Devin,

A factor that would influence my decision would be the conductor of the groups. One of the benefits from playing in an honors ensemble (besides bragging rights and the opportunity to play with other top musicians) is what you can learn from the conductor. In this setting, (s)he is not just a conductor, but a clinician as well. I was fortunate enough to play in a similar group conducted by Fredrick Fennell and I learned so much in just a couple of days with him; not just about band, but about being a MUSICIAN. My experience with him (and a few other conductors) taught me volumes about musical style, phrasing etc. that would have been valuable to me as an instrumentalist or a vocalist.

I agree with the folks below in saying that you are very fortunate to have these gifts and opportunities. Learn as much as you can and enjoy yourself.

Good Luck!

Russell
