If you are considering the expensive Sony microphone, I'd spend a hair more and get the Audio-Tecnika AT-822. It allows much higher input sound pressure levels than even the more expensive of the two Sony microphones (125 dB SPL vs. 115 dB SPL, which is a BIG difference). Also, the two channels on the Audio-Tecnika are discrete and pointed at 120 degrees, rather than being derived from a center-pattern pickup and a doughnut-patter pickup like the Sony uses.
When my pro recording-studio buddy looked at the Sony specs, he said "okay microphone." When he looked at the AT-822 specs, he said, "okay, that's a REAL microphone."
