The 2145 is a great tuba for use in most situations. It has a very nice dark sound with good projection. The intonation is very good as well. The response of this tuba is consistent in all registers and I was surprised at the ease of the low register. If you have the opportunity to try out a 2145 as well as other tubas it would be a good idea especially for the investment being made. I believe that a silver 2145 would have to be special ordered. I am very happy with my 2145 and it works well in the professional orchestra and brass quintet that I regularly perform in. I use a Curry Precision 128DE mouthpiece to achieve the sound I am after. All in all, this is one good instrument.

Good luck!
