Sorry to hear about your loss. I know that this makes your business transactions that much more important to you - as they would be to him.

I've recently had 2 tubas shipped to me from a pro shop - they use a packing method similar to tubadaves, using air-pac and cardboard boxed. One note - the cardboard boxes were about +4" on each dimension of the horn but made of VERY stiff corrugated cardboard (about 2x thicker than a regular box). You'd really have to try to whack a hole in one of these.

They used fright companies like ABF trucking (http://www.abfs.com/default.asp?bhcp=1) another one that comes to mind is NewPenn (http://www.newpenn.com/), although I don't know if they will ship a tuba. (I'm sure they will ... most companies will ship anything non-explosive/toxic/corrosive for the right price).

The trucking companies were all about the same price - about $150 to ship from MA (residential) to MI (commercial) for my HB-6 and a PT-6. A bit pricey - but the horns got where they were going (miracle #1) relatively unscathed (miracle #2).

Good luck.
