American shank: lg versus sm

Hello, all.

I've recently obtained a (small American shank) Warburton AJ Helleburg for use on my BBb York. With the new UMI receiver & leadpipe I have, it inserts 1-5/8" (!), but still nearly seats okay - it doesn't wobble. Although the Conn has a real receiver, an unfolded paper clip probing seems to indicate a "gapless" design. The setup plays well, but I am still wondering if response is compromised by not having the large shank.

Two questions:

Are the large and small American shank versions of mouthpieces typically back-bored identically, or is the larger shank version actually (albeit only a thousandth or so) bigger at the exit?

Is it possible to have the receiver swaged down a smidge, or mega-plated inside to narrow it down? - I've had trouble with a couple other mouthpieces as well. For now, I just keep a single thin layer of tape around the shank on those, just at the cup end. The needed difference is too small to enable the use of an adapter.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
