I'm sure it's just me, but I don't get that ethereal, floating sound from my beloved 621 as I do with tall-bell rotary F tubas. It has a gutsy quality, with a lot of presence and focus, but it's a different sort of sound altogether from the old German F's. I agree with everything else you say, and I love the 621 for its unique qualities and enormous playability. But someone seeking that classic F tuba sound will be disappointed with a 621.
