You're right about the orgin of the 621...I have seen and played one of the original "Schilke-Yamaha" prototypes done for Daellenbach. It was an intersting horn to say the least...I didn't really like, nor did I hate it...it was an "ok" horn though. I've never played a production 621 (BBb, CC, or F), so I can't really compare it to the production model at all, but from the pictures I've seen, the horns at least look similar to the "Schilke-Yamaha" prototype.

It was Sam Pilafian that told me that a lot of Yamaha's products are based off of great designs of old, and specifically that the 641 was an Alexander copy that didn't work out too well. He also said that a one time he visited the Yamaha factory and discovered that they have an amazing collection of originals in a vault that they take measurements from. He didn't get into exactly what they had, but he said that it was impressive.
