Considering that a tuba like that took approximately 400 man-hours to build, the cost of the materials(more than you think) and that the factory workers in Waldkraiburg deserve to make a living, and the factory has some overhead costs, then the shipping to the US, US Customs and brokerage fees, shipping to the dealer and the dealer needing to make a living and having overhead costs, that cost is quite reasonable if the instrument is new, or nearly so. Good tubas have never been cheap.
