I disagree with your statement that the answer lies in the number of tubists working as full time soloists. Pat Sheridan, for example, has a publicist, and two booking agents that specialize in different areas. Although I'm sure he is experienced in marketing, publicity, and booking, he decided that specialists were best for the job, and stuck to his specialization...tuba playing.
