I replaced the small-shank receiver on my Besson CC with an AGR. The process was relatively painless, involving only the fabrication of a tapered sleeve to ensure a snug fit with the leadpipe and a slight trimming of the receiver brace.
However, rather than using it to change the way the horn responds with a given mouthpiece, I've found it more useful to obtain a good fit with any mouthpiece. That is, it's possible to adjust it so that the end of the mouthpiece shank butts right up agains the end of the leadpipe, regardless of the size of the mouthpiece shank.
