As much as I would like to refrain from getting into this, I feel compelled to mention that while everything in the UK is relatively close together by US standards, the road system and traffic load here means that a 200 mile drive can easily take the same amount of time as a 400 mile drive in the US.
It's also worth mentioning that players in the UK don't routinely buy a new horn every year (and most players use horns owned by brass bands anyway) so there really isn't a strong market for used euphoniums in this country.
Also, since London could be considered the capital city of euphonium playing, there are more than a few new and used euphs for sale here, thus causing market saturation.
This is not very different from the fact that I have to shop for a sousaphone in the US, as they are harder to come by (and thus more expensive) here.
