You are right!! This method is not actually transposition...it will, however, since all the notes are being lowered the same amount...give you the same line, but don't try it in an ensemble. If one were to read trumpet parts in a band type setting (assuming Bb trumpet) one would convert the written pitch to concert pitch and play said concert pitch.

For example if trumpet had Bb-C-A-E
you would play C-D-B-F#

the method of adding three flats would however, produce (assuming this excerpt was in the trumpet key of F major

Db-Eb-Cb-G
