The valve you describe sounds like the right design for a late model
tuba, the difference being that older tubas (like mine) routed the
leadpipe around the top bow almost all the way to the 1st valve,
then angled back at 45 deg. into the valve port. So what I am
looking for, and tried to draw with my crude ascii art, is a fifth
valve with the older arrangement of lead pipe, but otherwise as you
describe. The reason being that if I drop the tubing straight into
the first valve from a point on the top bow, it is going
to shorten the length of the leadpipe by about 50mm, which means
pulling the tuning slide an extra inch.
