Slide Tuning

At last, I found some time this weekend to experiment with the fourth valve Amati 683.
I read a nice book of helpful hints on tuba playing, then sat down with the tuner and
started to rework my fingering chart. The fourth valve works wonders up around C/D/E
in the middle of the staff. I did some reading last night from the tubalogic site after
finding a reference in the archives. It explained nicely why this works.

I am curious about tuning of the 3rd partials open. After adjusted the main tuning slide
to balance between Bb below the staff and "middle" Bb, I find my pitch is off at F below
the staff.

Perhaps this is an issue of a perfect fifth versus equal tempered fifth? This is a
different issue than the fifth partial, but perhaps a similar arguement? I have not
discovered an effective alternative tuning. But it occurs to me that there could be
one. I find no difference in tuning between 13 and 4, but I could sharpen up 1 and
maybe a 13 for the F below the staff would be better?
