There are cotton gloves with small rubber nubbins on them that help with grip. A marching band supply catalogue, or a band itself, would be a source. If you want, you could go as far as baseball batting gloves or something similar.
Is the horn lacquer, silver, or bare brass? Plain cotton gloves have a much easier time gripping metal finishes than lacquer. Don't ask me how, but it just happens to be that way.
