Western Michigan University will be holding itˇ¦s 28th annual Tubafest„µ on Sunday, OcTUBA 26. We will be honoring two important tubists at this event: Professor Emeritus Robert Whaley, and Arnold Jacobs.

Bob Whaley taught tuba and euphonium at WMU for 35 years and was one of the first full-time tuba/euphonium professors in the country. Since this year marks the centennial for WMU, we thought it would be appropriate to bring back the only other tuba/euph professor this university has ever known. Bob is a walking history book and encyclopedia of knowledge! He will be featured as guest soloist and conductor of the mass ensemble.

Arnold Jacobs will be honored through electronic medium. For the first time in the state of Michigan, Brian Frederikson will display his ˇ§Arnold Jacobs, Almost Liveˇ¨ presentations. If you have not witnessed these, do yourself a favor and check it outˇKespecially if you never had the pleasure of meeting or working with Mr. Jacobs. We want to make sure his legacy lives on in the hearts, minds and performances of future students, and Brianˇ¦s audio/visual presentations really help to do just that. I have seen it and loved it!

Registration begins in the School of Music at 1:00pm. The festivities begin at 1:30. Registration fee is only $5, and that goes to help bring in future guest artists and/or cool presentations. It also goes to the snack fund for next year!

Bring your instrument and join in on the mass ensemble (ages 7th grade on up). The final concert starts at 6:00pm and should end no later than 7:30.

Feel free to email me with questions. Hope to see you here!
