Brian,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a gentleman named Bob (Robert) Carpenter plays on a Holton 345 CC with a bell collar so that the upright can be swapped out with a bell front. From what I remember, Mr. Carpenter was a student of Mr. Jacobs at Northwestern while he was an engineering major there. He bought the hron because, I'm guessing, it wasn't satisfactory for Mr. Jacobs due to weight and playing characteristics. The horn was originally designed for Mr. Jacobs to use in the Grant Park concerts so the tuba could get out front. That is the story I heard and it seems fairly believable upon seeing the horn (I have). You can find his name under a Google search and you might be able to contact him if you want further information.
