If today's stuff is so superior how is it that these old Yorks are still being played in the CSO and I see so many other guys with paying jobs using old "Model T" horns when such superior equipment is so readily available?

Seems to me Tubas have such remarkable long lived lives. It seems that very few truly get scrapped or disposed of in the disposable society we supposedly live in. BTW, since we are dragging old cars into the discussion there are still 500,000 + Model "A" Fords on the road today out of 2,000,000 made between 1928-1931. Not bad for a 72-75 year old vehicle. In many ways superior to todays cars.
