It depends on the thickness, coarseness, and hardness of your facial hair vs. the flexibility of your lip. I have a fairly inflexible lip and coarse, stiff beard hair, and I had to shave off the moustache when I took up playing again. If I go two days without shaving, I can't hit low notes. The guy who sits next to me has a full goatee and has no problems playing whatsoever. It's all individual.
