For the increased resistance below the Bb, I remember Pat Sheridan(developer of the Besson 983) talking about how if tubists work on just using tons of air in the low range, after awhile, it is like you just open up and get an incredible large, low range sound. This can work with all tubas, but would work well for the increased resistance on the Besson. In short, working hard on the low range will grant you with an incredibly large sound.
