if a group of ears has a general sense of differences between a group of different players, irregardless of the "unique" perspective of that group ....how else could you determine what really came out of the bells of the various auditioners?

How many equally competent tuba players can fit on the head of a pin? And once they are there, what real-world method would you propose for differentiating between them?
