This is true! Overdiagnosis is ALL to common.
Actually, when this child comes to lessons with his mother and sister, he is generally in a much worse (although not unfriendly) mood. When he comes with his dad and brother, he smiles more, is more talkative, and is generally in a better mood. I know he is at "that age" where the female company is probably not desirable to him. At any rate, the lack of focus is what worries me most. I know the psychological stage 10 year-olds are at, and this boy is definitely in that stage... and then some.
I use a random system when I practice; I pull cards with different elements of my routine on them so things are always varied. I am going to try this with him in lessons.
