Ken,
The Kings and Clevelands of that era were winners, too. Sounds like a great horn. I just recently acquired a 1921 Conn BB helicon, looks like a 4-valve version of a 14K sousa with a straight bell, and it is a factory original. Oddly enough, there is some very small type in the center of the engraving which reads,"Exchanged for New Buescher", and has a 4-digit serial number. Since the engraving looks more like Buescher engraving than Conn, I believe that Buescher made the bell, which flares a little differently from the usual Conn style. I was told that this instrument was originally used in the Minneapolis School District. It is in amazing shape for its age - played it on a gig last night, and it was just great. I hope I work that well when I'm 82!
