If it says "Walter Sear" its what we call a "stencil horn" and could literally be ANY configuration that Mr. Sear brought in with his name on it made by Mahillion. It could be one of the three or four configurations that were widely marketed, or something else altogether. Unfortunately, that means its pretty difficult for ANYone to give you a fair understanding of the horn you are considering based upon the name alone. Truth is it is STILL difficult for people based on the name alone to tell you how that specific instrument will play, and how it may or may not work for you. My two-cent's worth is that if you are considering ANY tuba purchase, and otherwise feel you should have to look for tubenet for hardware advice, negotiate a trial period and have your tuba teacher check it out for you and with you (you DO have a tuba teacher, right?)

Best wishes,
