Raymond Harvey, music director of the Kalmazoo Symphony, is the music director of our opera company. Perfect knowledge of the score, including vocal parts. Great stick technique - clear but very expressive (no dancing!). Very little verbal instuction - does most of it with the stick. Always makes our orchestra sound better than anyone else can, and inspires individual players to prepare and play their best. As a bonus, unfailingly courteous and professional. I would not be surprised to see him in front of a major orchestra in the next few years.
