Don't buy in to that environment crap because you can go whereever you want to go and it's ultimately your choice how much you challenge yourself. Pawning that off on the school is a cop out because I guarantee you, whereever you go, you'll be challenged and if you're not, then it's your fault, not the universities.
GPA, SAT, blah blah blah...go in and play well, make the commitee remember you and you're in...of course a good SAT score will help get some scholarship money.
