I believe that moving the valves slowly allows the buzz to continue through the pitches in the middle.Similar to a gliss.This with a combination of not having the air slammed on and off like Bob said earlier,is what makes it work.A good organist playing legato will depress one key slowly while lifting another one slowly.I learned this trick years ago from Warren Deck and it works very well. It seems to be a well kept secret.
