Someone asked the same thing a while back, but I'm happy to respond
again. I had a chance to spend about an hour with an 861 a while
back and liked it a lot. Probably the most similar horn to it is
the old-style 5-rotary Meinl-Weston 2155. The Yamaha probably has
a bit less character to its sound but is a lot less work to play.
The intonation on the Yamaha is really quite good for an Alexander
inspired design. I think it would be a great horn for bands and
all but the largest orchestras. When I tried it with a shallower
mouthpiece (a PT-82) I thought the response was good enough for
chamber playing.
