There are, I regret to say, a number of participants on this board who feel that a "real" tubist must play a Meinl Weston, PT, Hirsbrunner, or similar top professional tuba. Of course a St Petersburg is no good because (1) it is less than half of their pet, and (2) the only place you can buy a new one in the US is through Tuba Exchange. The other choice is to buy from Frieder in Germany. No music store will recommend it, they can't sell it. There are a lot of us in the world that don't make a living with our horns, who play in community bands, school bands, jazz bands, dixie land bands, polka bands, you name it, just for fun. We want a good horn, but it doesn't have to be the top of the professional line.
That said, I'll say good night.
