Well, I have to give big Joe Sellmansberger an ovation here. I grabbed an old 69C4 I had (I get them instead of the Mirafone C4 for the same reason - they are great copies but cheaper) and I bored out the backbore to a very modest 5/16" - .3125 for all you machinists out there. A good mouthpiece just got better. I have used the C4 for almost 15 years now for some solo and high register works and brighter playing on F and CC and I wish I had done this 15 years ago. Of course, back then I probably would have bored it out to .400 or more and ruined it. By the way, I will NOT even try to make a heavyweight out of it - that would defeat the purpose of this excellent mouthpiece for lighter styles of playing.
Thanks for such a good tip.
