This is something that happens on auctions of all kinds. People bid for something without knowing its value. I haven't priced a new student model Yamaha for several years, but they were in the $1500 range not too long ago. The "secret of getting a good deal at auction is know the product's value and quit bidding when it goes too high. Don't treat an auction like a contest that you just have to win.
