As for intonation, both are about the same. Range, I find large bore horns to (usually)have a stronger, more focused low end. As for the upper end, I can't really say. I've played some larger bored horns that got easitly to high F, and others that don't. Same with smaller ones.
Large bore horns can get much more volume without breaking up than the small once can.
However, small horns are prefered for small ensamble playing so that the horn won't be so loud it covers up everyone else.
As for tone, I prefer a larger horn for classical playing. It has a nice full, round tone. For jazz/dixie stuff, I would use a smaller bore for a brighter sound.
As for what's good for you. Look at what you will be using it for. And also what type of sound you would like.
And of course, don't just take our words...Go somewhere and try out a few and see what you think
