One word: YES!
Composition and/or jazz have not hurt players like Sam Pilafian, Carl Klienstuber or Jim Self to name a few. The more diverse your musical skills ( especially if you enjoy them ) the better the chance is that you will be able to making a living in music. Also more diversity will enhance your lifetime enjoyment of music. Consider your composition and jazz skills a gift!
