I have heard it said that for every tuba that Helleberg Sr. owned he had a mouthpiece made specifically made to fit the characteristics of that particular instrument, thus, the wide variety of Helleberg style mp's on the market. I have an old Giardinelli Helleberg that is nothing like the Conns, and although I have limited experience with the Schilke Hellebergs, I have found them to be quite different from any of the Helleberg mp's I have played. I think MP manufacturers have co-opted the name to fit a style of mouthpiece that fits into a category of sharp-rimmed, funnel shaped mouthpieces. While this may be a gross generalization, I think many of the posters would agree in THEORY with this remark.
