At my job I can have money from my paycheck depositied directly into my credit union savings account. It is a forced savings that over time really adds up. I never see that money, so it is not like I am missing it. And if something comes up where I have to fix the car or whatever, I have a slush fund to dip into. You can also use this as a way of saving for something special like a vacation or a new tuba. Set priorities and goals and then develop plans to reach those goals. Financial planning is no different than planning any other event or program.
