Muddy? Dark, yes. And lightly articulated. He played this on his 5/4 York. It may have been brighter (less "muddy") on his Miraphone 184, but I believe he was going for a period band style. Mighty Pacific is my favorite from this recording also. GREAT to have it on CD!
