Definitely go hear Wes Jacobs and the DSO do this work! Wes is a hell of a tuba player and that orchestra is really good. Now that they don't play in awful Ford Auditorium, they pretty much have the complete package.
Its funny that Chuck Jackson mentioned that this piece caused him to have a religious experience. I almost wrote the same exact thing in my post. This piece is deeply emotional in a very personal way. You won't regret the experience. And it just happens to have a killer tuba part. Another of life's happy coincidences...
