I sold a new 2950 last year to a kid who was heading off to college.

From my experiences of spending extended time tooting on and borrowing back for gigs (Ein H., Don Q., etc.) many of the 2900's that I had sold over the years, I knew instinctively that the 2900 was just about as big as a euphonium thing could be made without it becoming a Bb (not BBb) tuba.

I tried to talk the young man out of getting the 2950, but his mind was made up. He had even tried a 2950 at the Army winter shindig and claimed to like it. When the 2950 came in I played it and judged it a stinker. I REALLY wanted to like it, since the kid was going to end up owning it and I was also concerned about him backing out of the deal.

Fortunately for me /unfortunately for him he loved it and went through with the sale.

I recommend the 2900 with no reservations and discourage you from the 2950. In summary, I believe the 2950 to just be another of those "If its bigger, it must be better." things, and I fear if you ever decided to sell a 2950, you might be stuck with it.
